New York Knicks

Until the New York Knicks get good at developing their own talent, they’ll always be mentioned in rumors for other stars.

New York really only has RJ Barrett as a long-term piece, meaning this team would be Karl-Anthony Towns’ from the minute he dons blue and orange. Barrett and Towns are both good playmakers at their positions, so it would be fun to see some matchup issues created by those two. Julius Randle can still operate in the post and as a roller thanks to Towns’ elite shooting.

The Knicks also have a lot of tradeable salaries to reach a big cap hit like KAT’s, giving Minny the flexibility it will demand. Marcus Morris is a free agent after this season and Taj Gibson (added for salary purposes) has a team option for $10 million next year.

The only money guaranteed against Minnesota’s cap past the 2020-21 season would be going to Robert Covington ($12.9 million) and Jake Layman ($3.9 million).

Jarrett Culver, Josh Okogie, Mitchell Robinson and New York’s first in 2020 make for an intriguing core to develop while Andrew Wiggins chucks 25 shots a game.
