2. Spencer Dinwiddie

For as talented a player as Spencer Dinwiddie is, none of the success he’s currently experiencing would’ve been possible if not for a bit of circumstantial luck.

Originally entrenched in the sixth man role, Dinwiddie assumed starting duties once Kyrie Irving went down with a shoulder injury. He’s thrived ever since, averaging 26.0 points and 7.2 assists per game while leading the Brooklyn Nets to a modest 12-9 record in those games.

On the season as a whole, he’s blowing away his previous career-best mark in points per game with 23.0 to go with 6.3 assists and 3.1 rebounds a night

The Nets aren’t barren of talent, but most teams around the league would be doomed with the extended and unexplained absence of their best player — for now.

Of course, that Brooklyn continues to push forward certainly says something about Irving’s contributions to the cause.

It also has revealed to the masses just how special Dinwiddie is with the show all to himself. In keeping the Nets on course to make the playoffs for a second straight season, that’s more than worthy of his first NBA All-Star appearance.
