SG: Malcolm Brogdon, 2017-19

A common denominator for this list is that the best players to suit up for the Milwaukee Bucks came later in the draft, and none more so than Malcolm Brogdon. A four-year player at the University of Virginia, the Bucks selected Brogdon with the 36th pick of the 2016 NBA Draft.

The hope was that the Bucks could find a place for Brogdon in their rotation as they competed for a playoff berth.

Brogdon delivered on his low expectations and then brought significantly more impact, becoming a starter midway through the season and proving himself valuable throughout.

A knockdown shooter and strong defender, he was the perfect fit alongside a budding star in Giannis Antetokounmpo. In a weird year for first-year players, Brogdon won The Rookie of the Year award, becoming the only second-round selection to ever do so.

Over the next two seasons, Brogdon battled injuries to stay on the court, but when he did so he continued to be a valuable contributor. In 2018-19 he joined the 50-40-90 club of shooting percentages, at times showing himself to be the team’s second-best player in the postseason. Many Bucks fans lamented his departure from the team in the 2019 offseason.

Brogdon only appeared in 187 games for the team but that was enough to blow away the competition for the position. Monta Ellis played in just 103 and was a largely negative player while on the court despite his 18.9 points per game.

Tony Snell started alongside Brogdon in the backcourt before Eric Bledsoe was acquired and Brogdon slid to the 2. O.J. Mayo, Carlos Delfino and John Salmons all manned the position as well for a time, but none as well as Brogdon.
