PG: Brandon Jennings, 2010-13, 2018

In 2010 the Milwaukee Bucks took a swing on an enigmatic prospect in the NBA Draft, a point guard who eschewed the traditional one-and-done approach to play overseas for a season following high school graduation. Brandon Jennings came to the Bucks, not via Kentucky or Duke, but Virtus Roma in Italy. In doing so he became the first player drafted who skipped college to play professionally in Europe.

Jennings wasted no time in making his impact on the team. The 10th overall pick played 34 minutes and dropped 17 points in his career debut. Two weeks later he scored 55 points in a win over the Golden State Warriors, pouring in 29 points in the third quarter. He set the franchise record for points by a rookie and became the youngest player to ever score 55 points in a game.

While that one game screamed of great things to come, Jennings was unable to build on that tremendous performance. Over the next four seasons, he continued to start and would have occasional flashes of brilliance, but overall his numbers were rather vanilla. In the summer of 2013, he was traded to the Detroit Pistons for a package including Khris Middleton.

Jennings would slowly lose his place in the league, eventually suiting back up for the Bucks in 2018 after being relegated to the NBA G League. In total he played in 275 games for the Bucks, totaling 9,227 minutes for the club across five different seasons.

Jennings’ longevity and time spent propping up the Bucks’ offense alone give him the slight edge over Eric Bledsoe. The defensive impact Bledsoe brings is significantly better than Jennings, but offensively Jennings carried much more of the load. He also played 4,000 more minutes than Bledsoe. Also in consideration were Brandon Knight and Malcolm Brogdon.
