After posting just one double-double performance in his first 15 appearances of the season, Mitchell Robinson of the New York Knicks has taken flight over the last three weeks.

Robinson has three double-doubles over his last 13 games, all coming in New York’s last five games overall. He helped the Knicks to their largest win of the season, a 143-120 triumphs over the Atlanta Hawks at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 17, scoring a career-high 22 points to go with 13 rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.

The most significant change for Robinson is that he’s done a decent job of cutting back on his fouls, averaging 3.6 fouls per game over the last 13 games after averaging 5½ fewer minutes per game in his first 15 appearances.

His foul-prone ways are perhaps the only thing holding Robinson back in his second season. In 28 appearances this season, he’s already fouled out of six games after being disqualified only eight times in 66 games as a rookie.

But Robinson is making an impact, leading the NBA in block percentage at 8.2 and is making 74.5 percent of his shots in the restricted area with 82 dunks already. Considering almost 89 percent of Robinson’s shots come inside of three feet, that lends itself to a 68.5 percent rate from the field that is second-best in the NBA.
