Atlanta Hawks: 2010s All-Decade team
Shooting guard of the decade: Joe Johnson
Joe Johnson found a home with the Atlanta Hawks for seven seasons after short runs with both the Boston Celtics and Phoenix Suns. Atlanta got to witness the prime of Johnson’s career, but the start of this decade was the beginning of the end of his career in the NBA.
From 2005-06 to 2008-09, Johnson averaged 21.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game. Those averages dropped slightly for the decade of the 2010s, but he was still averaging 19.5 points per game thanks to an overall 45.2 percent shooting from the field., including 35.3 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
Johnson was still one of the Hawks’ most productive players of the decade and wasn’t pigeon-holed to just being a 3-point specialist like Kyle Korver was when he was traded to Atlanta. Johnson was selected to three of his seven All-Star games as a Hawk this decade and was named to the All-NBA third team in 2010.
Johnson’s point total per game is second-best for the decade, trailing only Trae Young, who is just in his second season as a Hawk. Johnson was also the only Hawk for the decade to average at least 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.
