3 Cleveland Cavaliers questions following Jordan Clarkson trade
By Tony Pesta
2. Who is next to be traded?
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski has reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers will look to trade their veteran players in exchange for future draft picks and young assets.
No player on the roster is more likely to be traded than Kevin Love. A five-time All-Star, Love is having the last of his productive seasons wasted on a lottery team in Cleveland.
Trading Love is the best option for both parties. Still a productive player, Love can reel in a decent package for the Cavaliers’ rebuild. Of course, Love would enjoy playing on a more competitive team as well.
Love is averaging 17.6 points and 12.2 rebounds in his last five games. There is no doubt he can be a benefit to a playoff team.
The Cavaliers will also look to trade Tristan Thompson. A veteran forward with championship experience, Thompson has a lot to offer at this stage in his career.
In many ways, Thompson has been the Cavaliers leader this season. His energy is relentless and he has shown great improvements on the offensive end. TT is averaging a career-high 13.2 points and 10.0 rebounds in addition to being the team’s best defender.
Cleveland is ready to embrace a new era of Cavs basketball. Parting ways with Thompson and Love is a tough decision, but it is the correct move for this franchise.
