SF Robert Covington, Minnesota Timberwolves

If you’re looking for an outstanding 3-and-D player, your search can end here. The Minnesota TimberwolvesRobert Covington appears to be available for the taking.

According to Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus, the struggling Timberwolves are open to moving Covington in hopes of addressing their issues at point guard. Jeff Teague is also mentioned as a potential trade chip, but Covington seems like the more tantalizing of targets for potential contenders.

Why? Because it’s not every day you come across a dangerous 3-and-D wing capable of making an instant impact. While not necessarily a star, Covington is an effective player who is currently averaging 12.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game while also shooting 35.7 percent from downtown. The numbers aren’t amazing, but that’s quality production for a key role player.

Plus, he’s still got two years on his current contract at just under $13 million per year. Those figures are significant, but certainly reasonable for a wing of Covington’s caliber.

With that said, Covington is still valuable to the Timberwolves. By that, I mean they aren’t going to simply give him away. However, if a contender gets desperate enough, it’s not crazy to imagine Minnesota parting with him if they got some quality assets in return.
