Andrew Wiggins: A second chance

Andrew Wiggins is having a career renaissance this season. The former Rookie of the Year has had made himself the object of fans’ fury due to his lackadaisical style of play.

Over the first five seasons of his career, Wiggins averaged 19.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game on 44.0 percent shooting from the field, 33.2 percent shooting from 3-point range, and 73.5 percent shooting from the free throw line.

This season, Wiggins is averaging 25.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.7 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game while shooting 46.1 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from 3-point range, and 74.6 percent from the free throw line.

Wiggins has been playing spectacularly of late and as far as his game goes, there is realistically only minimal room for improvement. The one thing that Wiggins really needs going into that post-Christmas stretch is for the fans to rally behind him again.

If Wiggins can begin to feel the love from the fans again, then there’s another reason for him to keep this amazing play up. More than anything, Wiggins is hoping for another chance, not from the organization which has stood behind him for the last six years, but the fans who have begged for his trade over that same period.
