5 NBA Draft prospects for Cleveland Cavaliers to watch
By Tony Pesta
3. Anthony Edwards
Drafting a guard in the lottery for the third year in a row would raise a ton of eyebrows for the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, Anthony Edwards may be too exciting of a prospect to pass up.
Edwards is far different from the two guards the Cavaliers have recently drafted. Unlike Collin Sexton and Darius Garland, Edwards has dominant size and strength for his position. He is built far bigger than Sexton or Garland, standing at 6’5″ and weighing 225 pounds.
He uses his size to full advantage. Edwards is a bully with the ball in his hands, averaging 19.8 points on 41.8 percent shooting from the floor. He is aggressive in the lane and can finish above the rim with ease.
Furthermore, Edwards has shown that he can expand his range to deep beyond the arch. He is an offensive weapon in every sense of the word and is growing as a playmaker.
The Cleveland Cavaliers may have to give up hope on Sexton/Garland becoming a backcourt duo. These two undersized guards don’t seem to make much sense on paper and haven’t had much success together yet.
If this is the case, Edwards would be the solution to Cleveland’s problems. Drafting Edwards then moving Sexton to the bench or making a trade sounds like a solid idea. Edwards looks on pace to become a better offensive and defensive player than both of the Cavaliers’ current guards.
