5 best New York Knicks moments of 2019
5. RJ Barrett arrives in NYC
From the whole Kristaps Porzingis fiasco, the New York Knicks had one thing made clear for them: they had to go get guys that wanted to play for them. Guys that would give their heart and soul for the Knicks.
In the 2019 NBA Draft, they did exactly that by selecting Duke freshman RJ Barrett with the third overall pick, immediately naming him as the team’s main building block.
Barrett’s father was a professional baller himself and had his family relocate quite often throughout the course of his career.
RJ has lived in Canada, Italy, Spain, Venezuela and France while growing up. Even in this unstable living environment, he always had a place he could call “home”. That place is no other than — you guessed it — New York.
After 24 games played, Barrett has averages of 14.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, though his percentages are not at the level you’d expect. Regardless, he still remains one of the front-runners for the Rookie of the Year award.
