4. LeBron James passes Michael Jordan

Last season was a letdown by the lofty standards LeBron James has set in his career.

For the first time since 2010, LeBron didn’t lead his team to the NBA Finals. For the first time since 2005, LeBron didn’t even lead his team to the playoffs.

Individually, LeBron’s All-NBA third team selection snapped an 11-year streak of All-NBA first team nods. His stats were nice (27.4 points, 8.5 rebounds, 8.3 assists per game), but he was hampered by injuries and played a career-low 55 games.

Along the way, LeBron hit more historic milestones in his 16th pro season.

The most notable happened on March 6, when LeBron moved into fourth place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list by passing Michael Jordan.

In a home loss to the Denver Nuggets, LeBron finished with 31 points. Midway through the second quarter, he banked in a left-handed runner to officially eclipse Jordan’s 32,292 career regular-season points.

The next day on Instagram, LeBron thanked Jordan and reflected on his accomplishment:

LeBron currently has over 33,000 points and counting. He can catch Kobe Bryant this season and move up to No. 3 on the all-time list behind No. 2 Karl Malone and No. 1 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

LeBron already ranks No. 1 in career postseason scoring with 6,911 points. Jordan, Kareem, Kobe and Shaquille O’Neal round out the top five on that list.
