Brandon Clarke rising fast past his peers on NBA Rookie Ladder
8. Ky Bowman, Golden State Warriors
8.9 PPG, 2.8 REB, 2.7 AST
What’s not to like about Ky Bowman at this point for a Golden State Warriors team that is trying to stay afloat and remain competitive in a brutal Western Conference?
The story on him hasn’t changed over the last few weeks. Bowman is a backup point guard who’s filling in remarkably well given his age and experience.
Head coach Steve Kerr puts Bowman in enough pick-and-roll actions to take advantage of his scoring prowess from outside and he’s certainly capable of finding holes in the defense to score at the rim as well.
He’s even fared remarkably well off the ball, coming off screens for looks from 3 or cuts to the basket.
Bowman’s not a strong set-up man for everyone else, as that’s just not how he’s wired. He’s perfectly suited for a first guard off the bench role to come in and provide an instant spark to the offense.
Put simply, he’s carrying a much heavier load than what will likely be given to him as he progresses through his career as a reliable bench scorer and spot starter.
But he’s still handled his responsibilities remarkably well and has shown enough poise to put the rest of the league on notice to what he’s capable of moving forward.
All remains well for Bowman who has earned himself a suitable role for years to come.
