Potential trade destinations

According to Hoops Rumors, Draymond Green can’t be traded until Feb. 3, which is interestingly three days before the trade deadline. Green signed a four-year, $99.6 million extension on Aug. 3 and players who sign new contracts are off the trade block for six months after the date of signing.

So until then, the Golden State Warriors have a lot of time on their hands if they’d like to entertain and seek potential landing spots for the star forward.

While articles have mentioned Draymond’s trade value since last year, he will definitely draw interest from many teams who are in need of a defensive specialist who can also serve as a playmaker and knock down an occasional 3-pointer.

Two teams that stick out, in particular, are the Portland Trail Blazers and the Miami Heat.

If Draymond relocates to the opposite coast in South Beach, he’d have plenty of support — but not on the same level as the Warriors at full strength, of course. Teaming up with Jimmy Butler would propel the Heat’s defense and chances of excelling in the Eastern Conference.

A formidable lineup of Kendrick Nunn, Duncan Robinson, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green and Bam Adebayo will be an exciting and underrated starting five.

Eddie Bitar of fadeawayworld.net listed four potential destinations for Green, but specifically believes that Draymond and the Heat will be a match made in heaven.

"The Miami Heat are on the hunt for stars, and Green fits their style of play. He plays tough defense and is all about hustle, which fits perfectly next to their superstar Jimmy Butler. The Warriors will likely ask for Goran Dragic, Bam Adebayo, Derrick Jones Jr. and future picks to make this happen. Dragic gives them a clean cap space slate for the upcoming season, while Bam is a nice player to man the middle thanks to his rebounding and defense. At the very least, Jones is a high-flyer who can be a nice role player as well."

Last month, The Ringer’s Paolo Uggetti mentioned a potential match between Draymond and the Blazers.

"Draymond Green seems like he’d be an ideal fit next to McCollum and Lillard, but he can’t be traded until four days before the deadline, and the Warriors have yet to give any indication that they would even be willing to listen to offers."

In Portland, Draymond would play with two All-Star guards (and Melo of course) who have struggled to excel in the playoffs each season. With Carmelo Anthony‘s recent acquisition, a lineup of Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum, Carmelo Anthony, Draymond Green and Hassan Whiteside (until Jusuf Nurkic returns) will be among one of the most deadly lineups in the entire NBA.
