2. Draft a big

This could be the most logical move for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Rather than worrying about disrupting a growing backcourt in Collin Sexton and Darius Garland, why not select a big man to carry the Cavaliers through the future?

The 2020 NBA Draft has a few notable names at the center position. Prospects such as Charles Bassey, Isaiah Stewart and James Wiseman stand out above the rest.

Any one of these three could find success with the Cavaliers. The team has been in desperate need of a rim-running big for nearly the entire decade. Finally filling this gap in the rotation would be a great way to move the rebuilding process into its next stage.

As of now, the Cavaliers’ frontcourt is being held down by Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson and Larry Nance Jr. This trio has proven to be solid at rebounding, but poor defensively. Last season, the Cavaliers ranked dead last in blocked shots.

Drafting a rim protector such as Wiseman would fix this issue. The benefit of having a reliable interior presence on defense can’t go overstated.

However, it is important to note the current trend of the NBA. Teams are playing more small ball than ever before and simply drafting a giant isn’t always the best move anymore. Take a look at players such as Deandre Ayton and Marvin Bagley III, who were taken over star talents like Luka Doncic and Trae Young simply because of their size.

Taking a big man seems to make sense on paper, but the Cavaliers should be wary of missing out on a generational talent.
