5 takeaways from New York Knicks weekend back-to-back
2. Strong 3-point shooting
During the offseason, the New York Knicks made a concerted effort to improve the team’s 3-point shooting. They have shot a lot better than last season and in the back-to-back this weekend, it was their 3-point shooting that helped get them back into games.
Against the Spurs, they made 15-of-40, which comes out to a strong 37.5 percent. That would put them seventh in the NBA. Marcus Morris, Bobby Portis and Wayne Ellington made four 3-pointers each against San Antonio to pace the team.
Against the Nets, it was more of the same. New York knocked down 18-of-35 from distance, which comes out a scorching 51.4 percent. Morris knocked down 7-of-8 attempts from deep, while Ellington made four more and Dennis Smith Jr. was 2-of-4.
Three-point shooting is the great equalizer in the NBA. Morris has been outstanding from deep this season, making over half of his 3-point attempts this season.
