4. Knicks have a Kevin Knox problem

The New York Knicks look like they have a Kevin Knox problem on their hands. Despite being the No. 9 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft and needing some playing time to continue developing his game, he looks to have been pushed down the depth chart.

Now, that is not to say that the decrease in minutes isn’t deserved. Knox has seen his shooting percentage drop throughout November after a hot start to the season from beyond the 3-point line. His defense still leaves something to be desired, but as a presumed member of the Knicks’ young core going forward, he needs minutes.

During this back-to-back set, Knox played only 27 minutes, nine against the San Antonio Spurs and 18 against the Brooklyn Nets. The extra minutes against the Nets are a byproduct of RJ Barrett being sidelined with an illness. This follows Knox receiving only 10 minutes against the Philadelphia 76ers.

If the Knicks were competitive this season and winning games, it would be one thing to scale Knox’s minutes back. But they are losing and losing often, so it makes little sense to scale his minutes back. That isn’t going to help him garner any more confidence or develop his skill set further.
