Indiana Pacers add another player to their injury report
Two steps forward and one step back seems to be the story for the 2019-20 Indiana Pacers. How will the already thin Pacers handle the loss of one of their best players?
The Indiana Pacers have had many injuries so far this season. It’s been challenging for the Pacers to form solid chemistry on the court when there are so many different players who are forced to have to step up.
Malcolm Brogdon is the latest of the Indiana Pacers to make the injury report. Brogdon leads the Pacers with 19.2 points and 8.2 assists per game this season. Brogdon played only nine minutes on Friday night against the Houston Rockets before departing the game due to a sore lower back.
There was no indication on when or how the injury happened, but Brogdon would not return to the game. There could be a chance Brogdon plays in the Pacers’ next game on Saturday against the Orlando Magic, as he is listed as day-to-day on the injury report.

The return of Myles Turner should certainly help soften the blow with the loss of Brogdon. Turner returned from his ankle injury on Saturday night against the Milwaukee Bucks after missing the previous seven games.
Turner started off quickly in his return with a deep 3-pointer early in the first quarter. The reigning NBA blocks leader provided his team with 16 points (6-of-14 overall, 3-for-7 from deep), 11 rebounds, four blocks and two assists in 33 minutes in his return.
Turner played well in his return game and it could not have returned at a better time for the Pacers this season, especially considering the injury to Brogdon.
The Pacers will look to feed off the sudden rise of Aaron Holiday. Over the last five games, Holiday has scored over 10 points in each outing and is averaging 15 points and six assists per game. The 2018 first-round draft selection is starting to pay off for the Pacers. As a point guard, Holiday will have to work on distributing the ball more (3.9 assists per game).
T.J. Warren was an excellent acquisition for the Pacers on draft night in June and has provided power to the offense so far this season. Warren spent the last five seasons with the Phoenix Suns and has only improved each season he’s been in the NBA. Warren is averaging 17.5 points per game and over the last five games he has averaged 16.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.
Domantas Sabonis has scored over 10 points in every game this season and has proven to be the most consistent player on the team thus far. Sabonis is averaging 18.6 points and 13.8 rebounds in 31.4 minutes per game this season. With Turner’s return to the team, some of the burden will lessen for Sabonis.
With the Indiana Pacers hardly getting any production from the bench this season, coach Nate McMillan has to rely on his starters more so than ever before to win games and be successful. Hopefully McMillan will get some of his team back from these injuries soon and the Pacers can regain their season.
