3 observations from Portland Trail Blazers signing Carmelo Anthony
1. A win-win for both sides
Although the Portland Trail Blazers have expressed interested in acquiring Anthony’s services over the past couple of seasons, they didn’t exactly go all in from a financial standpoint. In fact, the contract in place will pay Anthony $14,490 for every day he’s on the roster and the deal doesn’t become fully guaranteed until Jan. 7.
With that being said, even if Anthony doesn’t end up being a good fit, the Trail Blazers can move forward with minimal financial impact.
On the other side of the equation, this contract gives Anthony one last shot to resurrect his career with a team that had championship aspirations coming into the season and he will fill a role that he has become quite familiar with during his career: being an effective scorer.
If Anthony can give them between 15-18 points a night, while not being a total train wreck on the defensive end of the floor, this union has the potential to be a win-win for both sides.
