Latest Los Angeles Lakers rumors on Andre Iguodala trade, LeBron James retirement
1. Andre Iguodala unlikely to be Laker before deadline
It’s anyone’s guess what’s really going on with Andre Iguodala and the Memphis Grizzles.
The Grizzlies acquired Iggy and his one-year, $17 million deal during the offseason as the Golden State Warriors looked to unload his pricey contract. Since landing in Tennessee, the 35-year-old veteran hasn’t seen the floor as his new club seems adamant to trade him instead of play him.
Here’s what Heavy.com’s Sean Deveney had to say about the ongoing Iggy-Grizzlies stalemate:
"Memphis plans to wait on a buyout with Iguodala until February’s trade deadline. The Grizzlies are still holding out hope that a trade can be worked out and have been holding firm on their asking price of a first-round pick. If not, Iguodala will be cut loose from Memphis and free to sign with whomever he chooses—around the league, that’s expected to be the Lakers."
So what’s going on with Iguodala’s trade market? According to Deveney, not much.
Most of the interested parties are from the Western Conference, but they aren’t willing to part with a first-round pick to acquire the aging wing. As for the Los Angeles Lakers, they’re all out of first-round picks they can trade, since they shipped nearly all of them to the New Orleans Pelicans in the Anthony Davis deal.
They also don’t have any of the contracts needed to make the money work.
With that said, most other clubs also fail to meet the necessary parameters for a deal to come to fruition. The Dallas Mavericks have reportedly put together an offer that worked from a financial standpoint, but they also don’t have a near-future first-rounder to throw in.
Put simply, it could be a long wait for Iguodala. And if that ends up being the case, we could see him inking a deal with the Lakers not long after the February 7 trade deadline passes.
For now, the waiting game drags on.
