4. Sacramento Kings: James Wiseman, C, Memphis

James Wiseman’s physical tools and defensive capabilities give him a high enough ceiling to work with as a top talent in this year’s draft class.

A 7’0″ center whose shot-blocking and contesting range is comparable to the best NBA big men, Wiseman’s appeal doesn’t just come from his uncanny ability to alter shots.

Simply put, the dude moves up and down the court like a gazelle. It’s rare to find a player who stands like a tower yet moves like a guard. He can handle the ball in transition, make a few plays for others and is showing enough touch and development on his jumper to lend credence to the idea that he can eventually knock down an NBA 3.

So why isn’t he first overall in any kind of mock draft at the moment? Well for some, including ESPN, he is. However, Wiseman will have to answer concerns in college regarding his motor, understanding of the game and overall physical strength.

At times he took too many plays off in high school or just wasn’t aware of what was going on. When Wiseman is locked in and knows where he needs to be on the floor, he’s incredibly effective. That’s just something that needs to happen on every play, not every other play.

Not to mention that his frame is far from being filled out enough to allow him to make an impact on the block offensively. Wiseman will get pushed around a bit as he keeps ascending, so putting in enough time in the weight room is crucial to unlocking every ounce of his potential.
