Cole Anthony atop lottery prospects for 2020 NBA Draft
2. Memphis Grizzlies: Anthony Edwards, SG, Georgia
What’s not to like about what Anthony Edwards brings to the table?
A 6’5″, 225-pound shooting guard that can create his own shot at the drop of a hat and get a bucket in a variety of ways sounds like a dream come true for a lot of NBA franchises.
In many aspects, Edwards does sound too good to be true. However, should everything click for him and his athletic talents mesh with a solid skill base, he’s likely to beat out Anthony in time to be the first player off the board.
Anthony’s main concerns fall in the consistency on his jump shot as well as overall basketball IQ. The jumper absolutely falls in the streaky category and plenty of times when he should take his man off the bounce in the halfcourt and finish at the rim, he settles for a deep pull-up jumper that’s not guaranteed to go in by any means.
Couple that with his lack of understanding in operating in ball screen and playmaking scenarios and Edwards’ overall game starts to become a little less appealing. Remember, one-dimensional scorers don’t nearly live up to the hype and expectations of a more well-rounded prospect.
He certainly has the ability, now it’s time for Edwards to sit back and let coach Tom Crean work his magic showing him the ropes at Georgia.
