4 NBA Draft takeaways from State Farm Champions Classic
4. More wing options than initially thought
Cassius Stanley was already part of the discussion early on, so let’s move to some of the other wing players that intrigued scouts and observers alike.
Ochai Agbaji was Kansas’ most reliable shot maker against Duke and he impressed in the opportunities he got. From finishing off timely backdoor cuts to hitting open jumpers, Agbaji let the offense come to him and maturely took advantage when he had the chance.
He has the physical size at 6’5″ to operate as an NBA wing and teams love guys who show up to compete and can score not just in a variety of ways, but get opportunistic and smart buckets. Agbaji checks those boxes and should rise up draft boards appropriately.
Even though his time was limited, Wendell Moore was interesting to say the least. A 6’6″ forward who operated as Jones’ backup point guard at one point, his court vision and playmaking ability add a wrinkle to his game that few other wings will have in this particular draft class.
Any player who can dribble, pass and shoot deserves NBA consideration and Moore got to show some of those talents against Kansas. Where he’ll have to improve is in his scoring arsenal, as he wasn’t incredibly confident driving into the teeth of the defense, and his jump shot is a known issue coming out of high school.
It’s valid to worry about the masters of none heading into the pros, as he doesn’t have one particular elite skill that stands out.
But Moore is so young and has a chance to pop as the season goes on.
Finally Tristan Enaruna is a name to keep an eye on if he can assimilate himself well into the Jayhawks’ offense.
Physically Enaruna looks the part on the court. 6’8″ with a reported 7’0″ wingspan should be enough to turn some draft evaluators’ heads. He had one step-back jumper in the first half that surely got a few surprised reactions from the crowd.
While he didn’t do much since that basket, the tools and potential touch are enough to warrant an eye kept on him throughout the year. Just file Enaruna’s name away for now.
