3. Wesley Matthews

Wesley Matthews is the epitome of a solid, all-around veteran guard in today’s NBA. After the Dallas Mavericks traded Mathews to the New York Knicks, he eventually agreed to a buyout and joined the Indiana Pacers to finish out the 2018-19 season.

The Bucks acquired his services after signing him to a two-year, $5.2 million contract in the offseason, after realizing Malcolm Brogdon would not be in the fold.

On Tuesday, Matt Velasquez of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported that it will be Matthews who will get the first shot at the starting spot.

Matthews is known for his team defense skills, on-ball defensive tenacity and fearlessness driving through traffic to the basket. His veteran leadership and tough-minded playing style make him a well-respected player in today’s league.

While not always providing efficient offensive firepower, Mathews makes his presence felt through hustle plays and high basketball IQ decisions on the court.

The open guard slot in Milwaukee’s starting lineup belongs to Matthews for the time being. He represents the only proven commodity the Bucks currently have at that position and gives young potential guards time to look and learn from the example he sets.

At 33 years of age, Matthews understands his NBA days are numbered and will do everything in his power to help Milwaukee win an elusive NBA title sooner than later.
