Best-case scenario

The clear best-case scenario for the Golden State Warriors this season is if they make the playoffs, regardless of what seed they are. Secondly, Klay Thompson does return after the All-Star break and looks like he hasn’t missed a beat on both ends of the floor.

Also, the Warriors are able to build chemistry with one another and play to their strengths throughout the course of the season, lessening the pressure that Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Klay and D’Angelo Russell will face.

When thinking about the playoffs, the Warriors will be best suited against teams like the Trail Blazers, Nuggets, Spurs, Mavericks, Pelicans and Kings, especially since they will definitely struggle against the teams that have more firepower, like the Lakers, Clippers and Rockets.

Worst-case scenario

For starters, Klay not returning to his old form (at least) would be worse than the Golden State Warriors failing to make the playoffs. Their championship hopes dangle in the form in which Klay returns. If they don’t make the playoffs, the Warriors must figure out how to compete to not only make the playoffs, but for another NBA championship, the next few seasons.

Additionally, since injuries have been an ongoing issue during the preseason, the Warriors can’t afford to lose another main contributor on offense. If they do, their chances of making the playoffs this season will plummet.
