Different expectations for new-look Warriors in 2019-20
By Alan Mena
As the 2019-20 NBA season approaches, the Golden State Warriors are undoubtedly underdogs. Here’s a preview of what this new season has in store.
Steve Kerr and the Golden State Warriors have their most difficult season ahead of them under his tenure.
After losing veterans, Kevin Durant and DeMarcus Cousins to free agency and Klay Thompson to injury, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green will come into this season with massive chips on their shoulders. The addition of D’Angelo Russell into the mix should give the Warriors the added boost on offense they need this season.
However, will their second unit contribute as much as they are expected to? They certainly have the potential to do so.
Aside from Kerr’s sentiments, Bob Myers recently shared his excitement for this new season.
"“We’re excited about the youth. We’re excited about the unknown. In the past, we’ve had a lot of known which has been fantastic, but this is different … .”"
Myers is right, it is exciting when a new group of younger players come in and the outcome of the 2019-20 season is unknown. But the Warriors need to get their chemistry in check if they want to compete for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Back in September, Brian Windhorst was a firm believer in the Warriors and will not accept this campaign to be a lost year.
There is no doubt that Klay Thompson will come back and instantly provide the needed firepower the Warriors will need on both ends of the floor in order to compete for another NBA Championship in a more competitive league.
