5 predictions for the dramatically different Warriors

5. Stephen Curry wins his 3rd MVP award
As the 2019-20 season approaches, Stephen Curry has been mentioned as being a favorite to win another MVP award, which would be his third in the last six seasons.
In all honesty, Curry stopped himself from possibly winning three straight MVP awards in his efforts to recruit Kevin Durant in the summer of 2016.
While recruiting KD caused backlash from current players, former players, NBA analysts, and countless fans, this move was a testament to Curry’s selflessness and willingness to do whatever it takes to keep the Warriors title chances alive.
Furthermore, here’s a recap of Curry’s last stat-line as the first unanimous-MVP ever: 30.1 points, 6.7 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals in 34.2 minutes per game, while shooting 50.4 percent overall, 45.4 percent from 3-point range and 90.8 percent at the foul line over 79 appearances.
Curry’s scoring average spiked seven points, while he was able to also average career-highs in rebounds, field goal percentage and steals per game.
With Klay Thompson being hurt for the first time in his career, Curry will have to carry the Warriors more than ever. With help from his running mate, Draymond Green, they must lead by example and light a fire under the rest of the roster to have another chance to compete for an NBA championship.
Curry already put the NBA on notice (without the need to do so) by easily scoring 40 points in 25 minutes against the Minnesota Timberwolves, tying his previous record again.
While this proves nothing since it was a preseason game, it reminds us all of what Curry has been capable of throughout the course of his career. Scoring in bunches at the highest level from anywhere beyond the arc will always result in success in today’s NBA.
The NBA world will witness Curry in his MVP form once again as he wins his third NBA MVP award.
Final thoughts
Steve Kerr and the Warriors know what’s at stake if they don’t rally together and at least make playoffs this season. He recently stated that it feels like the Warriors are “starting from scratch” because of the roster changes and that training camp has been more intense due to their inevitable challenges ahead.
They have a ton of competition this season and Kerr is relying on the efforts of the rest of their roster to get the job done and at least make the playoffs. Surely none of the top teams would want a first round match up against the Warriors upon Klay’s return.
D’Angelo Russell, in particular, needs to build off his career-best year in Brooklyn and provide the offensive spark that will be needed in Klay’s absence. D-Lo is the key to keeping up the Warriors’ high-scoring offense but will need to translate his efforts on the defense end alongside the rest of his teammates.
Luckily enough, Kerr has the on-court leadership of Curry and Draymond to maintain their position and make their eighth straight playoff appearance.
