After the departure of key veteran pieces from their roster, the Warriors were able to round up more talent and have a successful NBA Draft. While more than half of the Warriors’ roster is new, they have enough talent to secure a playoff spot, but will not have an excess of time to adjust due to the increase in competition around the league.
Kerr will have the flexibility to utilize his new players, placing them in multiple positions based on situational purposes that will prove helpful in crunch time this season.
Stephen Curry, in particular, must will his team into the playoffs and prove he can return to his MVP form. Draymond Green and D’Angelo Russell, thankfully, will also be there to keep the Warriors afloat while they return to full strength once Klay Thompson comes back from injury.
In the current vulnerable state the Warriors are in, Draymond has kept track of his conditioning and can’t wait to prove all the doubters wrong. Last week, he told USA Today’s Mark Medina what he is focusing on this upcoming season.
"[M]y focus every day coming into the season can’t be on Defensive Player of the Year. It can’t be this or that. It has to be bringing this team together and making this work. Then if I bring this team together and make this work, all of those things will take care of themselves."
Draymond has the right goal in mind, which is being aware that most of his teammates are new; so chemistry is the primary focus that will result in the entire team playing to their strengths and competing at the highest level.
