2. RJ Barrett wins Rookie of the Year

One of the disappointments that New York Knicks fans had this offseason was not winning the 2019 NBA Draft Lottery. New York finished with the worst record in the league for the 2018-19 season yet came up third in the actual draft order.

While they didn’t get Zion Williamson, the Knicks had to have been happy to come away with RJ Barrett. Barrett was the No. 1 recruit heading into college and didn’t do anything to change that perception. While Williamson garnered more national attention, it was Barrett who was setting ACC freshman scoring records.

Barrett is a great scorer but needs to improve his shooting. He is an excellent rebounder for a guard and capable playmaker as well, averaging 4.3 assists per game.

To take home the Rookie of the Year award, a player needs plenty of opportunities to stuff the stat sheet. Barrett will be afforded that chance with the Knicks, as he should be looked at as the new face of their franchise.

Barrett will be used in multiple roles throughout the season. That will help him grow his game and stuff the stat sheet. He will be in the Rookie of the Year conversation right up until the end of the season and if the Knicks remain a competitive team, that will only help.
