Dissecting Nets odds for wins, MVP and Sixth Man of the Year

Where will the Brooklyn Nets finish in the East? Do any Nets have a shot at the MVP or Sixth Man of the Year awards? Vegas has some predictions.

With Kevin Durant unlikely to return this season, the Brooklyn Nets will likely have to wait a year before thinking about championship contention. But with players like Kyrie Irving, Caris LeVert and Spencer Dinwiddie, the Nets still have plenty of talent on the roster.

The team and fanbase seems to fully expect a playoff appearance in 2019-20, but where do the oddsmakers predict Brooklyn will finish in the Eastern Conference? And do they give any Nets a chance at the MVP or 6th Man of the Year awards?

Based on the above win totals, the Brooklyn Nets should make the playoffs, but it might not be as much of a lock as Nets fans might think (FiveThirtyEight gives Brooklyn a 58 percent chance at making the playoffs). And even if Brooklyn does make the playoffs as expected, the odds are against Brooklyn holding home court advantage for a playoff series (top-four seed).

On a more optimistic note, the Nets aren’t projected to be too far out of reach of a top-four seed (just 3.5 games behind Indiana Pacers). If a few things break right, this could be a reasonable goal for Kenny Atkinson’s squad.

MVP Award

The Brooklyn Nets might not have a legitimate MVP candidate until Kevin Durant returns next year, but Kyrie Irving still has an outside chance of getting in the conversation by the middle of next season.

Irving currently has the 12th-best MVP odds per Caesars. It’s definitely a long shot, but if he stays healthy, averages 25-plus point per game and the Nets finish top-three in the East, a top-five MVP finish isn’t out of the question at all.

Sixth Man of the Year

If there’s any individual Nets player that has the best chance at winning an award, it’s likely Spencer Dinwiddie. Dinwiddie finished fourth in the Sixth Man of the Year voting last season behind Lou Williams (winner), Domantas Sabonis and Montrezl Harrell. Williams is a heavy favorite to win again this season, but Dinwiddie has the second-best odds per FanDuel.

Conclusion

The Brooklyn Nets might not be a finals contender in 2019-20, but the the team should still make the playoffs and have the chance to make some noise in the postseason.

And while the franchise might not have a player favored to win any major awards, Spencer Dinwiddie has a strong shot at Sixth Man of the Year and Kyrie Irving could play himself into the MVP conversation with a strong season.
