Kevin Love. 25. player. 156. . .

In a ranking of each team’s second-best player the Cleveland Cavaliers are hard-pressed to come up with an answer, with a collection of role players and raw youngsters. The question of their best player is among the easiest in the league to answer, as Kevin Love stands well above his teammates, a star stuck in mediocrity.

That’s not to cry for Love, who will make $28.9 million in the first year of his four-year, $120 million extension signed last year. He chose to stay in Cleveland in order to get paid and whether he holds over into the next season for this franchise or is traded he is well compensated.

That compensation was well earned, as Love transformed his game from a dominant inside player to an elite outside player, a knockdown shooter who could survive and thrive next to LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. Fully healthy entering the season, it will be interesting to see how Love looks as the centerpiece of the offense.

Looking Ahead: Cleveland is hoping Love does not make this list in a year, not because they don’t want Love to succeed, but because they hope one of their young guards pops. Collin Sexton had an up-and-down rookie season and Darius Garland has huge upside starting with his rookie season. More than likely, barring a trade, this will be Love’s spot in a year as well.
