1. Nikola Vucevic, Orlando Magic

Nikola Vucevic’s breakout season was nothing short of – well … magical. He earned his first All-Star nod and led Orlando to the playoffs for the first time since 2012. In so doing, Vucevic established new career highs of 20.8 and 12.0 rebounds per game with a 51.8/36.4/78.9 shooting line.

The 28-year-old big man’s shooting stroke from all over the floor was on full display, with the most important increases coming on short mid-range shots and 3-pointers. Vooch knocked down 53.3 percent of his shots from three to 10 feet, and became a true stretch 5 by knocking down an above-average percentage of 3s on 2.9 attempts per game.

Unfortunately for Orlando, the magic may not last. Last season was significantly different from Vucevic’s previous performance level. His total performance on both ends was worth 9.9 wins, but his previous best for a season was only 6.2 wins.

His rebounding numbers have remained relatively consistent throughout his career, but the big jump in 3-point shooting accuracy was unexpected. Will he be able to maintain that level of accuracy with defenses prepared for him and knowing in advance that they need to respect his jumper?

What’s more, the Magic will be severely lacking in perimeter shooting next season with the continued development of Jonathan Isaac and the acquisition of Al-Farouq Aminu. During stints that Vucevic shares the floor with one or both of those two players, it will be difficult for his short mid-range game to flourish.

Due to the unexpected nature of his breakout season and the fit of the team around him, Nikola Vucevic is likely to regress this season.
