3. Chris Boucher will stick in the rotation

A spot on the roster isn’t even a sure thing for Chris Boucher. He’s only on a partially guaranteed contract. The frontcourt only got larger over the offseason in terms of the number of players.

But this is a make-or-break year for Boucher. With his NBA mortality on the line, expect Boucher to step up.

The big man has an intriguing skill set. He was an elite shot-blocker for the Oregon Ducks in college, averaging 2.7 blocks per game in his collegiate career. His defensive acumen carried over to the G League, where he was named Defensive Player of the Year last season.

Despite his abilities, his thin frame has led to speculation that he won’t be able to hang with big men in the NBA. He’ll also turn 27 years old during the upcoming season, making him less of a developmental priority moving forward.

But he has potential on both ends of the court. He played in 28 games last season, plus two in the postseason. Per 36 minutes, he averaged 20.5 points with 2.7 3-point makes per game. There’s an opportunity to space the floor and keep defenses honest.

Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol still reign over the frontcourt. Pascal Siakam and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson will also see minutes at power forward. There will be an opportunity for Boucher, though, one he’ll likely take advantage of to make his way into the rotation.
