Worst Case Scenario

When it comes to the worst possible scenario for the 2019-20 season, there’s some good news and some bad news.

The good news is that the floor is not as low as it has been over the last few seasons. By all estimations, Minnesota should see some improvement on their previous record, and the team should just look better than they have before.

Unfortunately, the bad news is that the floor still means no playoff appearance, and it could hurt the team for the next few years.

Right now, the Timberwolves are a middle of the road team in the Western Conference. Their lowest seeding will probably be a ninth or 10th seed, which would keep them out of the playoffs, but also give them a high enough seed to not have a great shot at a good position in the draft.

If that trend continues, the only way for Minnesota to escape from that horrible cycle is through a trade or free agent signing.

The Timberwolves are definitely still a few steps away from being a contender, however, with a few careful steps over the following summers, and smart play over the upcoming season, Minnesota could see a contending team emerge in just the next few years.
