2. Doc Rivers earns his 2nd Coach of the Year award

Few would believe the first and only Coach of the Year award for highly acclaimed Doc Rivers was with the Orlando Magic in 1999-00. With an NBA championship already in his possession, Rivers looks to add another ring to the collection while making history as a part of the LA Clippers organization. If he can accomplish this, a Coach of the Year award could be right around the corner.

Year in and year out, it’s hard to tell which coach wins merely by looking at capability alone. It helps when your team wins significantly more games in the regular season than the prior year. The LA Clippers will be near if not at the top of the Western Conference where they struggled to barely make the playoffs in the 2018-19 season.

Rivers continues to garner respect in the NBA as an older coach who played in a much different era who still connects with and mentors young star talent today. You get the sense that Rivers understands how to build confidence in players by knowing the right approach to tap into their potential.

An NBA player is already an exceptionally accomplished professional athlete, but few will ever reach their full potential without a coach that believes in them.
