Group 1: The Flamethrowers

1. Joe Harris

Performance on catch-and-shoot 3-pointers:

2018-19  –  155-322 (48.1%)

2017-18  –  123-295 (41.7%)

Two-season average: 44.9%

As already mentioned, Harris led the NBA in 3-point percentage last season and won the All-Star Weekend’s 3-point contest. He was also 2nd in the league in catch-and-shoot 3-point percentage behind Seth Curry at 49.7 percent among players with at least 50 made threes of this category.

2. Kevin Durant

Performance on catch-and-shoot 3-pointers:

2018-19  –  69-169 (40.8%)

2017-18  –  104-214 (48.6%)

Two-season average: 44.7%

A few players ranked below Durant had better catch-and-shoot percentages last season, but it’s hard to argue he isn’t at least the isecond best 3-point shooter on the roster. The 48.6 percent he shot on catch-and-shoot 3’s two seasons ago was third in the NBA, demonstrating what he’s capable of. He’s also second on the roster behind Harris at his average catch-and-shoot percentage over the last two seasons (44.9 vs 44.7)

3. Kyrie Irving

Performance on catch-and-shoot 3-pointers:

2018-19  –  99-218 (45.4%)

2017-18  –  67-168 (39.9%)

Two-season average: 42.7%

As discussed in a prior article, there’s a strong argument Kyrie Irving is an underrated shooter. He shot a blistering 45.4 percent on catch-and-shoot threes last season, and would likely be a top-two shooter on almost every NBA roster. In this case, however, his overall career numbers don’t warrant him overtaking Harris or Durant.
