After yet another disappointing year, will the 2019-20 Phoenix Suns be able to turn things around? Let’s dive into the team before this season begins.

Last season, the Phoenix Suns finished tied for the second-worst record in the NBA (19-63). They not only struggled to shoot the ball, but posted the 29th-worst defensive rating in the league. The franchise also finished with the most losses since the Suns’ inaugural season in 1968-69.

Suffice to say, it can’t get any worse.

That’s just the way general manager James Jones approached this offseason. He decided to move on from a number of players, including scrapping some first-round projects handed to him from year’s past. Instead he opted to pursue free agents and made a number of moves on draft day that both intrigued and confused many around the league.

With a young developing core to build around (Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges), things are starting to look a little brighter in the valley. But those players are going to have to grow up fast in order to save this floundering franchise.

The Suns are entering a ninth consecutive year out of the postseason and have finished among the bottom-five teams in the NBA for four straight seasons. It’s time for all those poor finishes to equate to a winning season. But while Phoenix steadily improved, so did the rest of the NBA.

With a now balanced, competitive Western Conference that could spell trouble for this young Suns team. Here’s an in-depth look at what to expect for the Suns heading into the 2019-20 NBA season.
