Cleveland Cavaliers: Darius Garland season preview
By Tony Pesta
Predictions
The Cleveland Cavaliers have placed their faith in Darius Garland. With the season quickly approaching, let’s lay down some predictions for the rookie.
For starters, it’s safe to say that DG will reach the NBA’s Rising Star Game if he remains healthy. He is simply too great of a scorer to be held out of the game as we can expect him to average over 15 points per game this season.
As one of the first truly elite shooters the Cavaliers have drafted this decade, Garland may be on pace to break some franchise records. Collin Sexton set the rookie record for most 3-pointers in a single season with 119. If Garland’s collegiate numbers are any indication, he should have no trouble breaking that record.
Of course, it all depends on Garland’s health. Though there currently aren’t any concerns, the fact that he missed the majority of his freshman year with a meniscus injury is something to keep in mind moving forward.
Assuming DG manages to remain on the floor for at least 60 games this year, we should have high expectations. Garland is ready to make an impact on the NBA. At his peak, I believe Garland can finish top three in the Rookie of the Year race.
