Cleveland Cavaliers: Darius Garland season preview
By Tony Pesta
The Cleveland Cavaliers are counting on Darius Garland to have a productive rookie year. Here is a full preview for the No. 5 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.
To the shock of countless fans, the Cleveland Cavaliers elected to take a point guard in the 2019 NBA Draft, only one season after taking Collin Sexton in the lottery. The decision to select Darius Garland was a confusing one for people who are unfamiliar with his game. For everyone else, this was a no-brainer.
Aside from Zion Williamson and Ja Morant, Garland is seen as the most talented player in his draft class. A crafty guard with a shifty handle and deep shooting ability, Garland is exactly what modern-day NBA teams need at the point guard position.
Sadly, an injury held Garland back from showing off his talents at Vanderbilt. We saw only a small sample size of what he is capable of in college, where he appeared in just five total games. It might take Darius a minute to adjust to the NBA level after not receiving much development as a freshman.
It’s tough to gauge what we will see from Garland this season. A ton of factors can sway his rookie campaign one way or the other. Regardless, I did my best to give a full preview of what to expect from Garland this year.
