A fresh start

Speaking of injuries, the San Antonio Spurs have had no shortage of them in recent memory. A reason why you should be excited for this season is that everyone is coming into it healthy. Dejounte Murray missed all of last season and Lonnie Walker only played in 17 games.

Last season was unfortunate at times, and this season has a clean slate. What we learned about this team and its players last year will help make this year exciting.

Dejounte Murray’s growth over the first few years of his career had Spurs fans excited for his 2018-19 campaign. Due to the injury, that has to be delayed to this year.

Last year felt like a freak injury and this year Murray will prove his worth and his status as one of the best young players in the league. On both sides of the ball, Murray excels.

The seven-game series against the Nuggets last season was really a footnote in a wild and long postseason. It feels like a small event and a cap on an unremarkable campaign. If anything, a bit uninspiring to not make that splash in the postseason.

Unlike the top teams in the West, there are not the same level of expectations on the Spurs. This means there is this feeling of security and an outlet to figure things out during the season. Along with a coaching staff built to weather any kind of storm.

A fresh start, lack of expectations, an under the radar young core, an amazing veteran coaching staff and plenty of talent young and old, the San Antonio Spurs are more exciting than you think.

The thought of a solid playoff push is as enticing as it is achievable, but first, the team has to establish their footing in the league. It all starts with the preseason and getting back into the swing of things.
