Cleveland Cavaliers: 5 2020 NBA Draft prospects to watch
By Tony Pesta
1. James Wiseman – C
Not only is James Wiseman one of the most talented prospects in the 2020 NBA Draft, but he fits the Cleveland Cavaliers needs perfectly. This gargantuan big man is well on his way to becoming a two-way rim running star.
Wiseman makes great use of his 7-foot frame, averaging 2.8 blocks per game as a junior in high school. He has all the potential in the world to become an elite rim protector, showing great timing and athleticism on this end of the floor.
Speaking of athleticism, he is extremely agile for his size. With the ability to glide up and down the floor, Wiseman will have no problem becoming a two-way player in the NBA. This is, of course, if he can round out his offensive game.
The biggest question around Wiseman right now is his finishing ability. For a player of his size, he does not display any touch around the basket. He especially struggles when attempting shots with his off-hand.
Luckily, Wiseman isn’t completely doomed offensively. He may not be an incredible finisher, but he does show promise as a shooter. A smooth stroke from mid-range with potential to expand to the 3-point line, Wiseman is an enticing prospect.
Ranking dead last in blocks per game last season, the Cavaliers need a player that can defend the paint. Cleveland should keep an eye on Wiseman as his first collegiate season begins.
