2. R.J. Hampton – G

As previously stated, the Cleveland Cavaliers already have an abundance of talent at the guard position. Collin Sexton and Darius Garland have yet to play together but are sure to combine for solid production. Should the Cavaliers really consider drafting another guard?

It’s a tough decision to make right now. Mainly, because we haven’t seen how Sexton and Garland mesh together. By the end of the season, perhaps we will come to the conclusion that Sexton/Garland is not going to work and the Cavaliers will choose to switch it up.

If this is the case, R.J. Hampton should be Cleveland’s first choice. This lengthy guard is the prototype for what modern-day NBA basketball should look like. A great handle, deep shooting ability and good size, Hampton is destined for success.

Offensively, Hampton can do it all. He is exceptional at creating his own shot off of the dribble and is developing rapidly as a playmaker. In his sophomore year of high school, R.J. averaged 30.3 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game.

Much like many young prospects, Hampton is a shakey defender. He has plenty of raw talent ready to be developed but lacks the awareness and drive defensively to have a positive impact at the moment.

An important thing to note about Hampton is that he will not be playing in the NCAA, electing to skip college and play professionally overseas.

Gauging his talents will be difficult as he plays against weaker competition but we should get a glimpse of what he can bring to the table during his time in Australia.
