Best NBA Jam duo for Minnesota Timberwolves: Kevin Garnett + Kevin Love

The Minnesota Timberwolves have not found success as a franchise that others have at some point in their history. While one of the NBA’s younger franchises (founded in 1989), other younger teams have brought home the hardware, including the Toronto Raptors this past year. Yet even without the team success, the Timberwolves have trotted out a few exceptional star big men.

Kevin Garnett is by most accounts one of the 15 best players to ever suit up for an NBA team and many would push him even higher. Defensively, he was ahead of his time, a rim protector with the foot speed to guard the perimeter and the drive to snuff out every attacker.

No one was dunking when Garnett was on duty. Offensively, he could space out to 18 feet and knock down a shot, or pump around the rim and then stuff home a dunk.

He could be paired with either Kevin Love or Karl-Anthony Towns, both offensively talented bigs with shooting and skill to go with less-than-stellar defense. The nod here goes to Love, who was a genuine MVP candidate during his tenure in Minnesota. He can shoot from anywhere, is a monster on the glass and his outlet passes would result in beautiful fast-break finishes from Garnett.

Together, the two would lack solid ball-handling or elite quickness, but they would compensate by getting a plethora of offensive rebounds and cramming home putbacks. Few teams could match them on the glass. Those teams that could are unlikely to have the quickness advantage. Garnett’s competitive fire would leap off the NBA Jam screen and make this a formidable team to overcome.
