Best NBA Jam duo for Miami Heat: Dwyane Wade + Alonzo Mourning

Anyone playing two-on-two basketball the full-length of the court immediately knows how much of a cardio burn it is. Playing at the speed and intensity of NBA Jam would be sure to tire out any player, but especially those who are not in peak shape. Enter the intense, but elite conditioning of those playing for Pat Riley and the Miami Heat.

While conditioning is not a stat in NBA Jam, the benefits in speed will be immediately clear. Dwyane Wade did not gain the nickname “Flash” for being doughy in the middle, nor for failing to make it up the court. His speed in attacking the rim and launching for highlight finishes will be well easy to see for anyone picking the Heat in the game.

His partner is none other than Alonzo Mourning, one of the best two-way centers of the last 30 years. “Zo” was a defensive juggernaut for a series of hard-nosed Heat teams, but brought the offensive firepower to fill up the stat sheet as well. He and Wade would partner together for many big finishes, the in-their-prime pairing we never got to see.

Wade and LeBron James were the real-life NBA Jam pairing for four seasons in Miami, but in the spirit of things, we let James live on the Cleveland team and paired “Flash” and “Zo” here. That being said, the pairing of James and Wade would be as devastating for rims in NBA Jam as they were during those four years together in South Beach.
