5. team. 24. . Bulls. . Coby White

Point guard Coby White might get the opportunity to make the rest of us say “WOWWWWWW” before his rookie season is over, but that will depend on how much progress he makes as a shooter between Summer League and the beginning of the season.

Kris Dunn is old news, but the Chicago Bulls brought in some stiff competition for White by getting Tomas Satoransky in a sign-and-trade from the Washington Wizards.

Satoransky is having a tremendous FIBA World Cup with the Czech Republic and likely slots in as the starter at the 1.

White played a single season at North Carolina, averaging 16.1 points, 4.1 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 28.5 minutes per game while shooting 42.3 percent overall and 35.3 percent on 6.6 3-point attempts per game.

In five Summer League games, White showed flashes but also showed struggles from the longer 3-point line … huge struggles (small sample size warning).

He averaged 15.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.4 steals in 30.8 minutes per game, but shot just 33.7 percent overall, a mark that was dragged down by his 3-for-30 shooting from behind the arc.

White also showed some explosive creativity in Las Vegas. Even with Satoransky on board, White is the future at the point guard spot in Chicago. Jim Boylen will go with young players as the rebuild continues for the Bulls. If White shows enough as a backup at the point guard position, he could push for enough playing time to make a splash in the race.

Chicago has had three Rookie of the Year winners, most recently Derrick Rose in 2008-09. Before that, Elton Brand shared the award with Steve Francis of the Houston Rockets in 1999-2000 and some kid named Michael Jordan was a flash in the pan as Rookie of the Year in 1984-85.

Makes you wonder whatever happened to that guy.
