The Detroit Pistons are building something in the Midwest. It’s taking some time, but, in the last few years, they’ve made some great moves.

After spending the better part of the past decade in NBA purgatory, the Detroit Pistons are finally starting to emerge.

More from Hoops Habit

They made the playoffs last year, for the second time in four years, and they were in a position to be better than cannon fodder before Blake Griffin got injured while the team slumped down the stretch. How did they get here though?

While missing the playoffs for two consecutive seasons, they still made some good acquisitions. We’re here to recognize those.

During this time span, the Pistons have changed coaches, the majority of the roster and they’ve gotten a new GM. They’re looking to make themselves competitive now by maximizing their window with Griffin and other parts of the aging core.

In order to compete in the NBA, your front office has to make good moves, and Detroit has a few that stand out.

The Detroit front office made some interesting decisions this offseason to continue focusing on the present while waiting to commit to the future. Until that happens, they’re working on opening their window. All of the moves we cover today, do just that.

It’s all about the now, and we will deal with the rest of the stuff later. If you’re trying to win now, these moves went a long way towards making that dream possible.
