Minnesota Timberwolves: 5 key 2019-20 games
By Ethan Becker
2. Wednesday, Oct. 23: Timberwolves at Nets
Another game that gains significance simply because of where it falls on the schedule. The Minnesota Timberwolves vs. the Brooklyn Nets will be the first game played for this new Minnesota squad.
The Nets had arguably the best offseason in the league and moved themselves from a sixth seed to now one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. Still, it’s not totally insane to think that the Wolves could sneak out a win over them, at least, in the first game.
Kyrie Irving, although he’s a future Hall of Famer, has shown to pull his team’s spirit down, especially if they’re losing.
Plus, the Nets lost a key part of their offense last season with a sign- and-trade with the Golden State Warriors that sent them an injured Kevin Durant and gave Golden State D’Angelo Russel.
With all of that turnover, it’s likely that a fairly stable Minnesota team could see a victory on the first night of the season.
