Minnesota Timberwolves: 5 key 2019-20 games
By Ethan Becker
3. Friday, Feb. 21: Timberwolves vs. Celtics
At first glance, this one doesn’t make sense. The Boston Celtics and the Minnesota Timberwolves haven’t really had a rivalry since Kevin Garnett left Boston and they’re not even in the same conference, let alone the division.
But what’s important about this game, as well as the next one, is where it falls on the schedule. This game against the Celtics happens to be Minnesota’s first game after the 2020 All-Star break. Last season, the Timberwolves had a slight glimmer of hope as they went 5-5 after the break.
A win on the first game back could help give the team the confidence and momentum boost that they need to break off any rust, and start playing top-tier basketball right away.
It will also be interesting to see how these two teams have played up to that point, as they are one of a few teams who have seen a dramatic overhaul to their starting rotation this summer. If they start playing really well right away, this could be a good game.
