The New York Knicks have an intriguing young roster. These three players have a good chance of breaking out during the 2019-20 season.

Things did not go as expected for the New York Knicks this offseason. The organization and its fans came into the offseason with really high expectations for the NBA Draft and free agency but they fell short of those expectations.

More from Hoops Habit

The NBA Draft Lottery didn’t go as planned, as the Knicks fell to No. 3 in the draft. The New Orleans Pelicans won the lottery, as the Memphis Grizzlies also moved up into the No. 2 spot and the Los Angeles Lakers moved into the No. 4 spot.

As a result, New York missed out on Zion Williamson but came away with his Duke teammate, R.J. Barrett. While the draft didn’t go as they hoped, free agency provided another opportunity for the team to upgrade the roster. That was more disappointing than the draft.

After proclaiming that the organization would land some big names, the Knicks missed on every top-flight, max player.

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, the duo many expected to head to Madison Square Garden, went to the Brooklyn Nets.

Kawhi Leonard signed with the LA Clippers. Kemba Walker ended up with the Boston Celtics, while the Philadelphia 76ers landed Al Horford and Jimmy Butler ended up with the Miami Heat.

While they didn’t get any of the max free agents, the orange and blue did upgrade their roster. They signed several veterans to help the young group they have put together.

While the fast rebuild many envisioned when the 2018-19 season ended didn’t happen, the Knicks will be improved this upcoming season.

New York did a great job retaining future cap space as Julius Randle is the only player that signed a deal that is guaranteed beyond this upcoming season.

With so many new veterans in place, there will be some fierce competition for playing time. If someone gets minutes this season for the Knicks, they will have earned it.

Veterans and young guys alike will have a great opportunity to produce and develop this upcoming season. These three players are candidates to truly break out during the 2019-20 season.
