Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 benefits to starting Collin Sexton and Darius Garland
By Tony Pesta
2. Scoring
There were plenty of valid criticisms for Collin Sexton in his rookie season. One thing that cannot be argued, however, is his ability to score the ball.
On the season, Sexton averaged 16.7 points per game, making him the third-highest scoring rookie in his class. He truly hit his stride in the latter half of the season, putting up an impressive 23.1 points on 51.4 percent shooting across his final 17 games.
As for Darius Garland, he made a big impact in his five games played for Vanderbilt. Connecting on 11-of-23 attempts from deep, Garland proved he has supreme accuracy from deep and can kill teams with his ability to shoot off of the dribble.
Combining these two offensively gifted guards sounds like a treat. With similar talents to Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum in Portland, these two can become a premiere scoring backcourt within a few seasons.
Both Sexton and Garland will have free rein to attack this season. If they can learn how to play off of each other and also create for their teammates as well, they could blossom into a deadly tandem.
